Axia vs Myvi vs Bezza: which rental car actually suits your Kuching trip?

Three cars, three different trips. This is the honest comparison we give people on WhatsApp when they ask which one to take.

The short answer

If it is two of you with cabin bags and you are mostly in the city, take an Axia. If it is three or four of you with real suitcases, take a Bezza. The Myvi sits between them and is the one most people are happiest with when they are not sure.

That is the whole comparison in three sentences. The rest of this explains why, because the differences matter more on some trips than others.

Passengers: all three seat five, but not equally

Every car here is registered for five people. That does not mean five adults will enjoy a two-hour drive in all three.

The Axia is 3.76 m long. Four adults is comfortable; five is fine across town but tight to Damai and back. The Myvi is 3.90 m and noticeably roomier in the back seat. The Bezza is 4.15 m and is the only one of the three where three adults across the rear bench feels normal rather than negotiated.

Luggage is where they really differ

This is the number people underestimate. The boot figures are not close:

CarLengthBootRealistic luggage
Perodua Axia3.76 m260 L2 large bags
Perodua Myvi3.90 m277 L2 large bags
Perodua Bezza4.15 m508 L3 large bags, and far easier to load
Boot volume as published for each model. The Bezza is a sedan, so its boot is deep rather than tall.

The Bezza's 508 L is nearly double the Axia's. In practice that is the difference between stacking bags on the back seat and simply closing the boot. If you are arriving with checked luggage for three or four people, this one number should probably decide it for you.

One caveat worth knowing: a sedan boot has a smaller opening than a hatchback. Awkward, tall items — a folded pram, a big cool box, camera cases — sometimes go in more easily through the Myvi's hatch even though the Bezza holds more overall.

Driving in Kuching city

Kuching is an easy city to drive in by Malaysian standards. Traffic is manageable outside peak hours, and the road layout around the Waterfront and Padungan is straightforward once you have done it once.

Where size shows up is parking. Older streets in the city centre and the lanes near the markets have tight bays. The Axia is genuinely the easiest thing to park in Kuching — it is small, the visibility is good, and you will fit spaces the others will not. If your trip is mostly kopitiam-hopping and Waterfront evenings, that is a real daily advantage.

Local noteAll three are automatic, and all our cars come with air-conditioning as standard. You will use it constantly — Kuching sits near the equator and the humidity does not really let up.

The trips out of town

This is where the choice changes. Three of the most common runs from Kuching:

None of these needs a big car. What they need is a car you are happy sitting in for an hour each way with the aircon working hard. On that measure the Bezza and Myvi pull ahead of the Axia, and the gap widens with every extra passenger.

Budget, and when it is worth going up a level

These are our current daily rates. Rent three days or more and the promo rate applies automatically — you do not need to ask for it.

Axia 2025RM130RM90/dayRM100

BezzaRM1503-day deal RM380RM100
Deposits are refunded in full, processed within 48 hours of return. Unlimited kilometres and basic insurance are included on every rental; fuel and tolls are on the driver.

Two things fall out of that table. First, on a three-day rental the gap between an Axia 2018 and a Bezza is about RM47 a day — for nearly double the boot and a considerably more comfortable back seat. If there are four of you, that is a small price for the difference. Second, the two Axias are not the same car: the 2025 is the current-generation model, and the 2018 is the older shape at the lower rate.

The Myvi is also available in a 1.5 variant at RM160/day, or RM400 for three days.

If your group is bigger than four, stop comparing these three — you want the 7-seater guide instead.

Short trips and long ones

For very short use we rent hourly at RM8/hour, with 12 hours or more counting as a full day. At the other end, weekly and monthly rates work out lower per day than anything in the table above — if you are working in Kuching for a season, message us and we will quote it properly rather than you paying the daily rate for a month.

So which one?

Whichever you pick, the actual car is confirmed by our team on WhatsApp — the booking form shows you what is normally available, but a person checks the real fleet for your dates. Start on the booking form, or browse the full fleet with current rates.
