7-seater car rental in Kuching: Alza, Aruz and the Alphard compared

Seven seats and seven people's luggage are two different problems. Here is what actually fits, and when you should take the bigger car.

Seven seats does not mean seven people and seven bags

This is the single most useful thing to understand before you book. Every seven-seater sold in Malaysia seats seven people. Almost none of them seat seven people and their luggage at the same time, because the third row sits exactly where the boot would be.

With all seven seats upright, the space behind the third row is enough for daypacks and shopping, not check-in suitcases. Fold the third row down and you have an enormous boot — but then you are a five-seater.

So the real question is not "how many seats?" It is "how many people, and how much luggage, at the same time?"

The three options

All automatic, all with unlimited kilometres and basic insurance. Luggage figures are what we would honestly promise, not the maximum you could cram in.

Perodua Alza — the family default

The Alza is the car most Kuching families rent, and for good reason. It is an MPV built around people: sliding-style access to the middle row, a flat floor, and a third row that adults can genuinely sit in for a 40-minute drive.

Take the Alza when you are a family of five or six doing city driving plus a day trip or two. It is the easiest of the three to park and the cheapest way to get seven seats when you actually need them.

Perodua Aruz — the same seats, more boot

The Aruz is almost identical in length but is built as an SUV rather than an MPV — higher ride height, and in practice a little more usable space behind the third row. It is also RM20 a day cheaper than the Alza.

Take the Aruz if your group is five with real luggage, or if you like sitting higher up. The taller stance is genuinely reassuring on wet rural roads, which you will meet on the way to Bau or Santubong.

Toyota Alphard / Vellfire — when the arrival matters

The Alphard is a different category of vehicle and a different price. It is 4.95 m long, the second row is genuinely luxurious, and it is the car you take when the journey itself is part of the occasion.

People book ours for corporate airport pickups, weddings, and family trips where an older relative should not be climbing into a third row. At RM800/day — RM650/day if you keep it three days or more — it is a deliberate choice, not a default.

Which one, honestlyIf you are a family of five going to Damai and back, take the Aruz or the Alza and spend the difference on seafood at Buntal. If you are collecting a client or a grandparent from KCH, take the Alphard. Both are the right answer to different questions.

Travelling as a group? Tell us how many adults, how many children and how many checked bags. We will tell you which one actually works.

The luggage maths, done properly

Work it out before you book, not at the kerb:

That last point is not us talking you out of a booking. Groups regularly under-estimate luggage and end up with bags on laps for an hour. Two cars is often the better trip.

Airport pickup with a full car

Seven-seater handovers at KCH work exactly like any other — we meet you at arrivals, free, at any hour. The one difference is worth planning for: loading a full group takes a few minutes longer, so give yourself a little more time on the return leg.

Tell us your group size when you book and we will bring the car ready rather than rearranging seats at the kerb. Everything about the airport process is in our Kuching Airport car rental guide.

Travelling with children

Baby seats are free, as are phone holders. Strollers are RM15/day and wheelchairs RM25/day. Tick them on the booking form and they come through automatically with your request.

Two practical notes. Tell us the child's age so we bring an appropriate seat rather than a generic one. And if you need two child seats in the middle row, mention it — that affects which car we recommend, because it changes how many adults can sit alongside.

Corporate and government bookings

We handle company and government rentals with proper invoicing under CAR & GO TRANSPORT SDN BHD (Reg. No. 202301001420) — airport runs for visiting staff, project teams working outstation, and longer-term vehicles. The Alphard is the usual choice for client pickups; the Alza and Aruz for teams.

For anything beyond a few days, ask for a proper quote rather than paying the daily rate. Full detail is on our corporate and government car rental page, and monthly and long-term rental explains how longer quotes are built.

When to size up

Still weighing up the smaller cars instead? Our Axia vs Myvi vs Bezza comparison covers those properly. Planning the whole trip? Start from the 3-day Kuching self-drive itinerary.

One honest noteThe booking form shows what is normally available, not a live reservation. Seven-seaters are our most-requested category and they do get taken, especially around school holidays. Message us early and our team confirms the actual car for your dates.
